I was asking my brother his opinion about my utau by making him listen to one of her songs and not even reaching halfway of it, he returned my Ipod saying "Horrible!" :mellow: :mellow:

He said it was like the words were just pasted together.. :blink:

Well, that's true cause that's how UTAU works! We record our voices in different syllables and characters and the program somehow puts them together as it reads the UST.[that's why it sounds robotic] :huh:

Let's face it! Even some of the famous utau's like Wakana Auane and Kenta Chikune sounds like this.(so do most utaus)

So, has anybody here also tried to show their utau? Maybe with their parents or any siblings?

Is there a way to improve our utau to make it sound less robotic and sing more than just like words pasted together? :rolleyes:

Well, A good knowledge of Otos and editing USTs (Mode2, pitch bends, vibrato, fitting USTs) REALLY helps making UTAUloids sound more realistic, or at least smooth. You really can't just slap an UTAUloid onto a UST and export it. Although, a lot of people do that, there's only a couple of USTs where you can do that without it sounding meh/horrible.

Also, well oto'd and recorded VCVs help. A LOT. As many people say "Every Overseas VCV Bank is gross and slurry!", this is NOT true. |: Kenji Baionoto, Kizune Yoshi and Viai are great examples.

D: They sound really realistic.
But uh, making VCVs is very time consuming, and a lot of people really don't appreciate them. -__-;; *has been rather offended at that as of late*

But yeah. I made Keeny (my friend XD) listen to Soras "Memories". I asked him "If he thought the singer was good".
He replied with "Yeah, the effect he used on his voice is awesome!"
XDDDD I then told him it was basically a singing robot/a singing synth.
He said I lied, listened to it again, and then tried to figure out how the program worked :'D It was fun.

I've showed a couple of people my UTAU.
Mom doesn't get it.
My girlfriend (who has voiced my other UTAU) said that he was really smooth and had great pronunciation (Because she can't pronounce things right xD)
Moocowleg from DA likes him a bit XD
VampiricGothicMonkey... Has only heard his Meltdown and thought he sucked (In that video, I agree with her)

EDIT: Also, Kenta was made to be robotic.

And choosing sensible USTs that are made to sound realistic is a good way to go when showing someone your UTAU.

XD I've showed my family, who seem to like it. But I think that's because a lot of them are kind of baffled at a lot of techy stuff, so for them, even if it sounds robotic, it's amazing to think such things can even be done.

My boyfriend however, was less than impressed, which is irritating, but whatever.

Also worth noting is something I experienced, at least. That this sort of music WILL sound odd at first. xD I remember being put off even by Vocaloids, because you could tell how robotic it was. Now I'm used to it. I couldn't even listen to UTAU music at all before.

The only person who isn't in the nerdverse and listened to UTAU was my mom, and she liked, saying that Aline sounded like a professional singer XD She wanted to record one, but she lacks time and disposition to do so.

Somehow some people don't get the beauty of this program. My brother keeps on saying, "What's the use of such program when the result is crap?!" :angry: ..[and I was like.. :mellow: ]

Well...there was a saying......what is sweet to me can be sour to others. One lesson I learned today is not to rely on him for critiques. :P

It seems those who can understand are utau and vocaloid users and some technology buffs.

[I do wish that my brother will stop being so critical(critiques are good but what he said was "ouch" to me)...I'm never like that when he goes imitating Belldandy's{from Ah! My Goddess} poses and ends up looking like gay. :o ] :lol: :lol: :lol:

My father is fascinated and loves it. XD He's always asking me if I've made new songs yet. And some of my friends like my UTAU, too. But I don't show her off in person much...

@haloheroine:

[a bit off-topic but...] do you know where can I download Kenji Baionoto and Kizune Yoshi's VB? I really like them. :lol:

@Ezri:

Good for you to have a supporting family. Mine isn't even on my dreams. :mellow:

@Kinu
On their creators youtube, I think.
Yoshi's VB is definitely there... Not so sure about Kenji's VCVs. I got them on here, in the UTAU Voicebanks Section: http://overseasutau.forumotion.net/
