Well this isnt really just americans only but lately i've been seeing many people (mostly not from japan)
draw these somewhat decent drawings but this is mostly about characters...
do you find it somehow takes away the whole manga feeling or even just the overall look when people put to many "white spots" on the eyes?(or shine)

I suppose this would be more fitting for the Manga or Japanese section.

But to your question; it's hard to support the idea that what makes a manga style authentic is a little shine here on their eyes. I go with the notion that everyone has influences in their drawing style, manga/ anime being one of them. I can't see how someone from outside of Japan drawing in a anime style would somehow demean the manga style as a whole.

So someone draws in a manga style, what of it? It's nice that people get inspired by manga to start drawing. The best way to learn is honestly copying other people and seeing for yourself how they do what they do.

This reminds me of Mark Crilley.

But think about it....

i/e Lucky star and FMA have total diffrent drawing styles, but still manga. DB and Naruto, completely diffrent.

Miki falls is american made, but still has that "Japanese" feel too it.

I see i geuss manga style itself is unique person to person since everyone has their "own"(somewhat) style

I don't mind it, just that I feel they look fat, that's all.

The part I hate about it is the idiots who are hating on the "original" way of drawing manga, and they draw it the American way

It's not the eyes that are bugging me,it's the teeth. Especially the girl on the bottom she looks like she has a " you gonna get rapped " face. However, I know I can't do it better so I have not right to judge.

I just figured it was the maid outfits. I know Iku Acme looks kinda chubby but it is because of her maid out fit being super frilly.

LOL cheeseymilk's username amuses me greatly

that aside, there is no "american" way of drawing manga, since everyone's art style is different

you guys are just pointing out the bad examples

it's like saying "only azns should cosplay!!! all white people suck!!!" and showing someone pictures of kipi and arisa VS the cat-ear-donning hambeast at your local con, while neglecting amazing white/hispanic/black cosplayers

Ahh this is so true, although I used to be guilty of that last part back in my super weeaboo days when I thought Japan could do no wrong...

I didn't read any replies to the first post. Just throwing it out there!

I only do one (sometimes 2) white spots of my characters are tearing up (from sadness or joy). But otherwise, I keep their eyes pretty basic/maybe 1 white spot once in a while... maybe.

Is it even considered Manga if it is made by an America teenager but follows the basic right-to-left magna format and such? I already have one manga book made, and am translating it into Japanese. :3 Just wanting to know if it's "Manga". (It is probably not  )

Well, are you happy?

Insanity is Sanity. Keep it so you are unique, and do not blend in. Only then will you be happy.

You know that one look, that always seems to be in those "Learn to draw Anime" books?

Yeah, I hate that.

I know not all of them are bad, I have one that's actually halfways decent. But it's from a mixture of artists, and I tend to gravitate towards the ones which have a mixed American comic/Manga feel. Possibly because the book actually teaches some anatomy, rather then the "And then you draw this here because".
