This is to everyone who is still browsing the site and is not aware of what is happening.
To everyone that knows how, disable Javascript and Plugins when browsing VO (it is still safe to do so as long as Javascript is disabled and you delete your TEMP folders after closing the browser. And run a virus scan.
(Mac users are safe and Linux should be safe as well. Run virus scans just in case)
In a very basic understanding of how the virus works, it runs off of Java, which is a very important part of nearly every modern system. If you delete Java, most things will not work as Java is incorporated in nearly every part of digital society.
I don't understand how the skin system works, so I can't elaborate on where the infection originates from, but in the header of the pages which are global for the forum and load everytime you visit a subdomain of VO, there is a Javascript that runs (much like how there is a script that "scans" for the BBcode in posts and applies the correct effect) and attempted to either download a program to your computer without you knowing.
Now for those of you who say "I can't download anyways", that is incorrect.
So pretty much, the script loads the command to download the malware onto your computer and install it remotely (this is also how Botnets are expanded). If you have an updated Anti-virus software, there is where there should be a warning saying that there is a security threat.
It is still not safe to go on unless you turn off Javascript. If you don't believe that things can happen to your computer while you are controlling it, you are naive and either a genius programmer or a stupid person trying to deny yourself.
Search up the .hta file format and come talk to me again when you realize you are wrong.
tl;dr
It is still technically safe to browse the forum as long as you:
1. Disable Javascript in your Browser and automated Script running/Active X run
2. Keep an updated anti-virus software.
Mac users and Linux users should not be infected with this, but it is best to be safe and run scans regardless with good anti-virus software.
IF YOU ARE BROWSING THIS SITE IN INTERNET EXPLORER, IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO THE SECURITY OF YOUR COMPUTER
You should immediately shut off the internet, disconnect your internet after updating your antivirus software and run a full system scan. IE is a very very insecure browser, there is a reason that many people switched.
The most likely programs this virus will download is Adware, followed by Botnet programs followed by Keyloggers.
From what I have seen, it is very likely that Azure's computer was the original source of the infection as it is the website code that has been infected, and only the webhost and the website Admins can tamper with. We have been trying to get ahold of him to inform him of the situation and reverse it.
If you have no idea of what I just said, please. I really wish you would try and learn basic computer security.
Otherwise, thank you for reading and GTFO the site.
