The alarm went off at exactly ten in the morning and its owner slapped the top of it, silencing the clock. Miku sat up in her bed yawning. As she slowly became more aware of her surroundings, her eyes grew wider and wider. Then she leapt out of bed, twirling around her green room with a large smile on her face.
“Today is the first day of summer vacation! It has been so long since I’ve been to the beach. Oh yeah, I better hurry up and get ready!” She told herself. Miku started digging through her drawers humming a made up tune. She took out her favorite green and white stripped bikini. “I hope it still fits!”
…
About twenty minutes later, Luka drove up in front of Miku’s house with the Kagamine twins Rin and Len in the back seat.
“This is so exciting!” Rin clapped in her seat. “When we first get there, can we go swimming in the ocean?”
“Of course, but only in the shallowest part.” Luka nodded. They both cheered. As a summer job, Luka was in charge of watching the two everyday for thirty dollars an hour. Being she spent an average of six hours a day with them, Luka was ringing in the cha-ching! “I’ll be right back, going to get Miku and then we are off to the beach! Stay put.” She gave both a stern look before exiting the dark pink vehicle. Luka made her way up to Miku’s front door, sporting a short white summer’s dress with her copper colored bikini hidden underneath. She knocked twice, rang the doorbell, and waited patiently. Len and Rin spied on her from inside the car.
“Come on already, I wanna go swimming!” Rin whined gently pounding her fist against the car window.
“Yeah, that’s going to make things go faster,” Len giggled and received a playful slap to the back of the head. “Hey!” he rubbed the spot on his head and then went back to peeking out the window. “Oh wait look, here they come”
“Finally!” she sighed and settled back into her seat properly as both of the older woman got into the car.
“Dawwww, don’t you two look adorable?!” Miku cooed staring at the twins. She remembered Luka calling her up yesterday warning her that they would be coming along. Miku didn’t mind at all, the more the merrier.
“I know,” Rin replied flicking her short blond hair and then laughing. Len simply blushed at the compliment. Luka started up the car and off to the beach the four went.
At first, everything was going perfectly. Luka made sure the twins (and Miku) put on plenty of sun screen and then allowed them to run off. “Stay where I can see you!” Luka warned as the two young blondes made their way to the water’s edge. Once she saw them safely enter, Luka laid down on her beach towel.
“Operation: Work in our tans is go!” she announced. Miku quickly laid down as well. Then that was when the trouble started. Screams erupted seemingly out of nowhere. Both Luka and Miku jumped up from their spots and saw the water had turned a weird purplish red color.
“Where-where’s Len and Rin?!” Miku asked panicking. Luka was frantically searching the crowd for the twins.
“They might still be in the water, come on!” Luka grabbed her best friend’s arm and led her to the exact spot she’d last seen the twins go to first enter the water. The stench was horrible!
“What is in this water?!” Miku muttered as she walked further and further in.
“I hope it isn’t anything lethal!” Luka feared and started swimming as fast as she could. “Len!!! Rin!!! Where are you!?”
Miku followed suit, screaming the twin’s name. They swam farther and farther out but with no signs.
“If-if something happened to them, I’ll never forgive myself!” Luka whimpered as she swam towards Miku.
“No! We will find them!” Miku re-assured. “Come on!” The girls swam even farther out and the stench was nearly killing them. “On second thought, lets try getting back to the beach? Maybe they are back there?”
“Yeah,” Luka agreed quickly. Once the two hit land, both collapsed in an exhausted heap. From what Luka could see, the beach was completely deserted. Luka felt like crying. She almost did before hearing several foot steps. She wearily looked up to see a handsome young man with dark blue hair wearing a pizza delivery boy uniform and at his sides…were Rin and Len!! Luka couldn’t tell it was a trick of the eyes or what, but it looked like Len had cat ears and a tail…?
“Safe? You-you saved them?” She asked the man wearily.
“Yes and right now we need to get you to a hospital!” The mysterious blue man said. That was the last thing Luka heard before she passed out.
…
“Fight it Luka!” she heard a voice from far away yell out.
“What? Where am I?!” Luka saw nothing but black everywhere.
“Come back!”
“Who are you?!”
The voice was too faint for her to hear this time. All Luka remembered was passing out on a beach. Also that strange man had said she needed to go to a hospital. What if he didn’t?! What if they all were in even more danger?!
“Luka!”
“Don’t go into the light!”
Then once again, the voices faded out. Luka didn’t understand, there was no light. Only darkness. A strange feeling of hatred was starting to boil up but Luka tried to ignore it. She stared walking around hoping the voices would give her more advice. ‘If I see a light, I avoid it’ Luka thought despite thinking that seemed silly. Light meant life right? Suddenly Luka just started screaming and becoming extremely angry.
“Fight it!”
“Stay a good person!”
“You voices…are NOT HELPING!!” Luka yelled and got down on her knees. The voices continued asking her to ‘stay a good person’ and to ‘fight it’. She could only assume they meant this feeling of unspeakable hatred. Luka swallowed hard and tried thinking of things that she loved. Then of people she loved and loved to do and to her surprise, her skin started glowing. “What the-?!” Luka just stared in fear and awe.
“You’re doing it right! Keep at it Luka, you can do it!”
The voice was much crisper this time. It almost sounded like Rin. She kept on thinking about everything she loved and valued. The hatred died down, and her skin went from simply glowing to changing to different colors of the rainbow. Her surroundings began brightening up too. Luka found herself in a pink colored meadow. In the middle of it was a large tree.
“Come back to us!” the ‘tree’ yelled. Luka started running towards the tree. Feelings of hate and anger started boiling up again and caused her legs to start feeling heavier and heavier. Luka ended up having to crawl. The closer to the talking tree she got, the harder it got to move.
“Is the tree safe?!” She yelled out. Were her efforts futile?
“Open your eyes!”
Well wasn’t that helpful? Luka decided to just fight her way to the tree anyway. With what little strength Luka had, she reached a feeble hand towards the tree. Her once rainbow glowing skin was now turning black and emitting a creepy red glow at a fearfully quick pace. When Luka touched the tree, the very tip of her middle finger was the only thing not “black.” …
…
“Luka!” Rin yelled and the pink haired woman awoke with a fright.
“It worked nya!” Len cheered, his tail twitching back and forth excitedly. Luka blinked in confusion.
“Len? Ta-tail?!”
“Yeah, Kaito, the blue haired guy that had saved us all earlier, gave Len mouth to mouth recitation and he suddenly gained kitty parts!” Rin explained.
“The purple stuff in the water was some sort of toxic waste,” Kaito spoke up , appearing seemingly out of nowhere. “It wasn’t a fatal sort of toxic though but it did bring about odd changes in people. Like this guy,” he looked over at Len who was chewing his tail.
“And we were afraid you were going to turn crazy and evil like Miku!” Rin cried hugging Luka. “But you managed to wake up before that happened!”
“Evil?” Luka choked out.
“ Yeah, your veins were beginning to turn a really bright red color and you skin got extremely pale. When that happened to Miku, well, her veins were a really bright red color and popping out from under her skin. She woke up with dark red eyes and started cackling evilly that she was to be Queen of the world. Then she leapt out a window and ran off. ”
“Yeah, Miku went loco nya,” Len added before going back to chewing on his tail.
“That’s terrible, isn’t there something that can be done?!” Luka asked frantically.
“Magical kitty Len is our only hope!” Rin said pounding her fist into the palm of her hand.
“Beg your pardon?”
“Len is no longer a normal human; he now has super agility, strength, and moe-ness!”
Luka just stared.
“Yeah, just trust us on this one. You lay back down and rest up. The worst is over.” Kaito said calmly and then touched Luka’s arm with a banana. Suddenly, Luka felt one thousand times better.
“Wow, what did you just do?!” she asked resting her head on the soft hospital pillow.
“I had found a banana in the water,” Rin began explaining. “When I touched it, my third arm disappeared! For some weird reason, when bananas are covered in the ‘toxin’, it becomes like a cure. I sort of told everyone about it and so all the local stores ended up running out of bananas. So Kaito had to run out of town, buy some, run all the way to the beach, dip them in the toxin, and then run back here. Miku was already evil and you were almost too but woke up just as he returned.”
“Third arm?! Yeah, I’ll just be going to sleep now,” Luka turned over in the bed.
Rin giggled. “Ok boys, I’m depending on you to save Miku and then the world!”
Both Kaito and Len saluted her before heading on out.
…
“I’ve tracked Miku’s location to this abandoned castle in the town’s amusement park,” Kaito alerted Len thru a walkie talkie. “Be careful, over .”
“I will, I will, over.” Len mumbled nimbly leaping from roof top to roof top. The duo had been searching for Miku for the past six hours and just finally had gotten a lead. Len already knew the way to the amusement park, being his parents always took him and his sister there for their birthdays. Once getting there, the place was in horrible shape and smelled strongly of onions.
“Onions?” Len said out loud. He continued onwards feeling a little less confident then before. An explosion rang out just a few feet away from Len and he jumped in fright, tripping over an exposed pipe.
“Hurry up!” He heard Miku yell, “ I want all this land cleared so I can expand my magnificent castle!”
“Miku is here, over!” Len whispered excitedly into the walkie talkie.
“Good, a simple tap from the banana on her arm should do the trick. The toxin absorbs rapidly into the skin. Over” Kaito responded. Len got back up on his feet and stealthy made his way thru all the debris. Another explosion shook the entire area. Len dug his claws into the ground to keep steady. A huge cracking sound was heard and Len looked up to see a cart from the Ferris wheel hurtling down towards him. He was about to run for it when a man in all black came out of nowhere, kicking the cart a good distance away from Len’s location.
“Didn’t I tell you to be careful?” The man smirked, his black cape swaying in the wind.
“Kaito…,” Len mumbled standing up. “I could’ve easily run out of the way!”
“What the heck was that?!” Miku screeched. “Do we…do we have intruders?!”
Not long after that, an onion appeared a few feet away. There was a ticking sound coming from it…BOOM!
“Onion bombs?!” Len coughed. Through the smoke he could see a figure. It didn’t look like Kaito’s. Len gripped his banana wand very tightly. This might be his only chance.
“Oh where are you?!” Miku cooed. She held another onion tightly within her left hand. Using the smoke to his advantage, Len quietly made his way to Miku’s side, and whacked her with the wand. “Ouch!!” she yelled falling over and dropping the onion, it exploded the second it hit the ground. Len just barely had time to react and run…
…
“Len? Are you ok?!”
Len opened his eyes to see both Kaito and a now normal looking Miku staring down upon him.
“Miku! You’re not crazy anymore…are you?” he asked.
“Nope! You cured me!” Miku said hugging the blonde tightly.
“Oh? Ok?”
“Let’s get out of here and tell Rin the good news!” Kaito suggested getting up to his feet. It took them about an hour to walk back to the hospital Rin and Luka were staying at. Halfway through, Len got sleepy so Kaito carried him on his back. Miku then wouldn’t (or maybe couldn’t) stop squealing at how cute the two looked together.
“We’re back!” Kaito announced wearily entering the hospital.
“Is everyone ok?! Miku!!” Rin ran over to the teal haired girl and gave her a huge hug. “Oh, Luka is in the other room! She’ll want to see you as well.”
“Yeah, I’m just going to go take a nap,” Kaito yawned. He and Len disappeared into one of many empty rooms.
So the small group of five all stayed in that hospital and figured out how to extract the “cure” out of the banana’s soaked in toxin. Rin tested this “cure” by pouring some of it in a glass full of the regular toxic liquid. The liquid turned into regular, clean water.
“Who would’ve thought you were such the little scientist?” Luka congratulated, patting Rin gently on the head.
“Well, I’ve always been really good in Science!” Rin grinned. “Now let’s go save the oceans!”
…
And save the oceans they did! No one still knows where the strange liquid had come from but everyone did know that it was Rin who discovered the cure. She was asked to several press conferences, interviews, talk shows, everything! On one show, Rin decided to reveal she also sang a bit and in no time flat, she became an extremely famous singer. Yet this rock star life just didn’t sit right with Rin. She couldn’t spend time with her family and friends thanks to constantly being on tour or recording a new CD (she was even asked to voice a vocaloid!). She started wishing people would just stop buying anything with her voice or face on it!
“I am going insane!!” Rin screeched shaking her coffee table furiously. This was the first time she had been ‘home’ in ages. Rin inhaled and exhaled, then sat down. Today was her day off and Len was coming to visit her. It had been three years since she last saw him. Well, really saw him as in talk with. Not a quick wave from the limo as it drove off.
“Miss Kagamine, a visitor is here to see you.” One of her security guards announced.
“Is it Len? Len!?” Rin called out.
“Its me!” Len yelled back from the front door.
“Let him in already!!!”
The guard nodded towards the other guards and allowed Len inside. The two long separated twins finally re-untied.
“How have you been?! You haven’t been getting too stressed, have you?” Len asked.
“Pffft, no.” Rin shook her head. “I absolutely love this life!” She didn’t want to worry Len with her problems. Right now, she just wanted his full attention.
…
By the time the two got back to her mansion, Len was exhausted. He never remembered Rin being so demanding. She hadn’t wanted any of her usual servants around so Len ended up being the substitute. Rin wanted some sweets? Len had to go get it. When she bought something, Len had to carry it. And she bought a lot of things. Yet despite the outer bratty Diva, he knew his sister Rin was somewhere in there…under all those sparkly clothes and thick make up.
“Well, its time for me to go.” Len said feeling somewhat bitter sweet about it. Rin grabbed at his arm.
“Can’t you stay longer? Be-because um,” Rin let go of him. “I could use some help re arranging some furniture!”
“ You’ve been treating you like one of your butlers all day, and I’m not even getting paid!” he was joking around but the look on Rin’s face made it clear she didn’t find it humorous. “I was kidding? Rin? Rin!” He grabbed her and took her over to the couch. “Seriously, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you cry!”
“Oh Len, I have been treating you horribly today, haven’t I?” she sniffed. “I hate this life! I wish things could be returned to normal!”
“Miss Kagamine, you have visitors.” Her guard said entering the room.
“Who?!”
“There names are Luka ,Miku, and Kaito.”
“Oh, bring them in!” Rin said wiping away all her tears. Len took her hand and squeezed it gently. She then squeezed his hand back and in turn, caused Len to smile a bit. The others came in and everyone started catching up.
Miku giggled. “Isn’t it amazing all that had happened to us? I mean, if I hadn’t been there, I ‘d never believe it!” Everyone nodded in agreement. “I can still hear that alarm clock that went off the morning before all this even started. Odd, its getting louder and louder and-,”
…
The alarm went off at exactly ten in the morning and its owner slapped the top of it, silencing the clock. Miku sat up in her bed yawning. As she slowly became more aware of her surroundings, her eyes grew wider and wider. Then she leapt out of bed, twirling around her green room with a large smile on her face.
Then she stopped, frowning.
“Holy…talk about your déjà vu!” She paused for moment and then proceeded to changing into her bikini. Just as she was about to enter the bathroom, Miku heard someone banging crazily against her front door. Miku put her clothes down and ran down stairs. “Luka?!”
“Miku, this has to be the fourth time we’ve relived this day!” Luka said storming into the house. Len and Rin followed after her, all three in their swim gear.
“Oh we have?! That would explain my déjà vu,” Miku giggled.
“This time, we do not go to the beach!” Luka said. Miku, Len, and Rin all pouted. “Let’s just stay here. Where it’s nice and safe because I swear if this day repeats itself one more time-!”
“Someone order pizza?” Kaito asked from the opened front door. Luka screamed and fell backwards in her chair.
“We sure did!” Miku lied staring at the handsome young man. “Please come in Kaito!”
“Sure, thanks Miku…wait…wait?! How’d you know my name when we’ve never even meant? Heck, how do I know your name?!”
“Its fate obviously! So come on and sit!”
“Yeah, ok. My shift’s over anyway.” Kaito agreed easily. He had originally been planning on going to the beach but this seemed fine too. The rest of the day proved to be completely normal and no one, not even Luka who had been able to recall every single time the day had repeated, could figure out why things had been so weird before.
The End
