so, I do enjoy Nico Nico, it has a nice set up, it's a nice switch from Youtube when you just need a break from the red. One problem. I don't understand what anything does, why? because I cannot read japanese. but maybe I could knwo what some of the things do. For example is there a way to play things in a playlist? like on youtube? or how do upload/download videos? i have many more questions, but I'll open the floor with these two.

Mylist is simple. Do you know Spanish? They have the site in spanish if you want. It's easier than Japanese.

Making screenshots :D

Done. Here ya go. These took 45 minutes.

French is closer to Spanish than it is to German. I think.

I signed up in German D:

But yeah, I edited my first post

Orange button beside the "Comment Style" button is the video options tab.

You watch channels/communities much like subscribing to YT channels. If you choose to recieve e-mails from NND, you'll get updates from them in e-mails too.

You can customize Mylists by the name and the colour as well as description I believe.

You can share mylists by their mylist number like a playlist.

The difference between the two "Mylist add" buttons is that the orange one just adds it to whatever mylist is "active". The active one can be changed in the Recently Added videos page.

The second one adds it as well, but you can specify which one to add it to.

If you get red text, that's either telling you the Mylist is full, there is an error or you already added it. Check the mylist to see if you have.

Wait, they have German and Spanish but not English? D:
But they do have French? I know more French than I do Japanese...

I signed up once with help from a translator, but I forgot my username and/or my password, and I can't figure out how to get them to send me it. >>; Would it just be easier to sign up again? (I'd have to use a different e-mail, wouldn't I?)

German, Spanish, Taiwanese (Chinese) and Japanese.

The four languages.

The japanese wouldn't be ready for the english onslaught of stupid.

So that's what those buttons do! I was wondering about that. Thanks Pap.

Now to learn Spanish...

is there a way to play my list like a playlist, where it will change videos?
EDIT
which button toggles the active 'my list'? is it just one of the numbered ones, and can you name your 'my list'

I mean, come on.Half of the people on earth speak/understand at least a little english.Okay, maybe not the half but still.English is more spoken than Taiwanese, for example.
Not to mention that there are a lot of English-speaking people on Nico.

That's what I'm thinking. And the Japanese seem to at least have an interest in English, given how fond they are of randomly inserting Engrish into their music.

But who knows, maybe Pap's right. I can just imagine all the "OMG KAWAII DESU" streaming across the videos. >>;

Think of it this way.

If the english people want onto NND that bad, they'll go through the hassle of translators to get there.

They don't want the retardedness of Youtube Weaboos mixed with the retardedness of the Japanese already there.

As far as I've seen?... Nope. I don't doubt that functionality could occur, but autoplay isn't activated for me and I always have to give the go for a video to play.

Yes you can name your mylist. Go to the mylist page (the one that shows the videos and you can switch between lists) and beside the delete button in red, there is a customize button.

Click that, and there will be an option to change the name from standard, which I am assuming is something like "Mylist (#)"

On the Recently Added Page, there is a dropdown box that shows one of your mylists. If you have only one, there is only one option, and I'm guessing that is the "Active" one selected. To change, just click and select another one.

When you use the Middle button to add a video to your mylist, instead of the right orange one, a black box will pop up in the middle of your screen with a dropdown box and two buttons. Right is Cancel, left is Add. Select which list you want to add it to and voila. Done.

And something funny, but you can add tags in videos yourself, and delete them as well.
At the tags section, right next to each tag is a red box with a letter on it. Click to delete. I assume the red text is add another, but generally they are fine as is. Like YouTube, you can click it to go to a search page for that tag.

Generally you can search for more songs and Voca-Ps through the related videos tab, or finding the right tab. The producers are always tagged.

The last time Dwango (the company that owns Nico Nico Douga) posted their user demographics, they had way more Taiwanese users than those from the english-speaking parts of the world. Might be different now, but Diwango hasn't posted any stats in a while.

Also, the German and Spanish versions came after Nico Nico Douga got a mention at Prix Ars, which I don't think is a coincidence. I wonder what it would take for an english version of the site.

If you think about it, getting an English version of the site won't really do all that much. Many English Vocaloid fans, as well as fans from other fanbases go on NND regularly to get their video fix. And they know how to use the site.

NND isn't all that attractive to most of the English Speaking world anyways. It could likely be that it gets English and the only thing that changes is that the fans already there have it slightly more accessible to them.

I'd use it more often if I could freaking understand it! I also know or people who would give it a try.
