NOTE: USE THE NEW TOUHOU WIKI DOMAIN, I AM NOT RE-DOING EVERYTHING
Ahem.

The Touhou Project, also known as Project Shrine Maiden is a series of vertical curtain fire (danmaku) shooting games developed by Team Shanghai Alice.
Games in the series are...

1) Highly Responsive to Prayerr
2) Story of Eastern Wonderland
3) Phantasmagoria of Dim.Dream
4) Lotus Land Story
5) Mystic Square
6) The Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil
7) Perfect Cherry Blossom
7.5) Immaterial and Missing Power
8) Imperishable Night
9) Phantasmagoria of Flowerview
9.5) Shoot the Bullet
10) Mountain of Faith
10.5) Scarlet Weather Rhapsody
11) Subterranean Animism
12) Undefined Fantastic Object
12.3) Hisoutensoku (Unthinkable Natural Law)
12.5) Double Spoiler
12.8) The Great Fairy Wars

The games protagonist, Shrine Maiden Reimu Hakurei is faced each game with a problem and venturing off through commonly six stages of concentrated bullet fire and continue to rank up in difficulty. The game's programming, design, music are all done by ZUN the one member of Team Shanghai Alice. First developed in 1996 the games were first released on the PC-98 and he has continued to release games totally up to twelve games, two fighters, an expansion pack for the fighters, and two extra games featuring a totally different aspect of gameplay against spellcards.

The games are known for their exclusively female cast, music, and obnoxious difficulty.
As for the actual games, they take place in the mythical realm of Gensokyo where demon-girls (youkai) gods, ghosts, and many other entities make mischief leaving Reimu to pick up after them. Things that have happened include someone stealing the moon, the boundary between life and death fading and even a giant geyser springing out of the ground as a hell-raven plots take over.

There are over one-hundred characters in the entire series, and many people make their own doujin works of music remixes, comics and more.

There are also written works released by ZUN such as Silent Sinner in Blue, Curiosities of Lotus Asia, The Grimoire of Marisa and many others.

He has also released music CD's containing remixes and original works following the written tale of two other major characters, Maribel Hearn and Renko Usami.
As of late, these CD's are instead handled by the character Hieda no Akyu.

A full list of works is below.

I demand that this be pinned.

You forgot Inaba of the Moon and Inaba of the Earth, though.

So far I've only pecked through PMiSS and part of the Grimoire, plus a bit of the music CD's.
