Well you kind of answered your own question there didn't you.
Anyway, obviously which region of console you buy depends on what language you speak, and what games you want and how much you want them.
Currently the 3DS is only official available in US, EU and JP, if you live elsewhere in asia such as Hong Kong or Taiwan you literally have to pick a random region and stick with it at the moment.
Hopefully they will make all of asia 'Asia' region when they eventually get around to them...
Then you will get some English games from hong kong and taiwan that would work in the Japanese system.
The original DS... Mainland chinese games were region locked, because they needed to increase the cache for the typefaces or something.\
Chinese-language DS games don't work on foreign DS.
Anyway, - back on topic - the game looks very cute, but it is kind of hard to tell what the gameplay actually is from the video - Regardless I will probably still pick it up since I'm sure it will be something along the lines of mashing buttons to music
Two other routes that officially piss Nintendo off are to:
Wait for an emulator that works.
Wait for a firmware hack to blow the region protection.

That goes as well to Sony and Sega. Game companies will always get pissed with Emulators and Bypassing region blocks. (I'm a hardcore gamer despite my knowledge in NND. >:3)
hacking Nintendo is a feat few dare to do. Sony, sure, since they are always abused(Looking at the recent PSN hack, or rather, people exploited that knowledge too much for their own good. Sony is a good company, despite it's..... You know.) and always attract hackers. Some people are nintendo lovers, so some are reluctant to hack. Although some managed to hack their Wii. But overtime, it got bricked. Too much homebrew is good, but it if glitches the system, you must be unlucky.
As to making it Asia region- Not gonna happen. Not unless China stops being a close minded self centered country, and other countries rise to a state where it can be considered a 2nd world country. Some asian countries also lack game company enthusiasts. And most countries don't even have a home base company of the same name, like Nintendo of japan and Nintendo of Europe and Nintendo of America. there's also SEGA of Japan and Konami etc. too many to enumerate.(I know this is getting off topic but it IS related.)
And most unlike Japan and America, some countries are not THAT competitive in gaming (I'm NOT talking about DOTA, that's a given. but that game is obscure in the overall gaming world), Korea is competitive in Starcraft, Even having a national competition. Japan also have competitions, Singapore could host a competition(I dunno if they did recently though, I can't say.)
Ironically, I have a Japanese 3DS. YET I can PLAY a US Pokemon White on it. I'm not joking. That game was SUPPOSED to be region locked, on the DSi. Guess they left that little detail out on the 3DS.
But enough of that. The way I see this game. It's a more personal level where you can edit a mini concert like MMD(Which is a true fail. Though Nendos are Cute, i prefer a real miku to perform.) but at a limited extent, like Project diva where you can make a dance and PV. As to gameplay..... I'm lovin' it(Papaparrrapppa~~)
I'm officially bookmarking March 9,(I definitely can say they'll release it on this date. I mean come on, it's so blatantly obvious. XD As to it being true, I dunno. It just says march 2012, but that's not my point. I say it'll be released March 9.) I want Miku. On the 3DS.
Oh and here, feel free to watch them TALK about it:

I'm not sure I agree, Sony made almost ALL of asia NTSC-J back on the PS2, I'm talking purely in region-coding for the games. Taiwanese games work in Hong Kong, Hong Kong games work in Japan, etc.
Microsoft did the same.
There's no real reason not to as far as the hardware coding is concerned, the things you mentioned are more localisation issues than reasons not to include most of asia in the same region lock.
Anyway, the new footage is looking cool.
As for the augmented reality feature, I'm sure the internet will soon be full of Miku dancing around various parts of various people..

Sony doesnt region lock games or software, neither does/did SEGA (SEGA games back in the day i mean. when SEGA had its own consoles). nintendo is the only company that region locks games because most nintendo games are marketed in America anyway. its purely for the fans that they region lock
My sprites:

Next on my list:
Taiwanese Tonio
Classic Ann
Leon (REDO)
Tonio (REDO)
I might possibly do:
Ueki-loid
Lou Tianyi

Sony's current consoles aren't region locked, however PS2 and backwards were region locked, ofc the PS2 and PS1's locks are easy enough to get around with disc swapping and boot CDs
Hopefully someone will create an easy method for people who are unsure about importing the 3DS.
SEGA did region lock their consoles, however the Megadrive/Genesis region lock was much like the 360 in that it was the software developers who were allowed to choose whether or not to lock their games (Although Asian carts were a different shape). More importantly it was hardware based so once it was hacked it was hacked and no stupid firmware updates to 'fix' things!
Anyway I don't think it's an unrealistic idea to import a 3DS, since there will be many other cool games released in Japan alone no doubt.

Considering I'm planning on a Vita instead I've no real reason to buy a 3DS along for this. 'Sides, somehow the Nendo style is kinda putting me off.

Well that's taking "Moe Blob" to a whole new level~
But the real piece of important info I got from the news is the 2012 March aimed release. Well some of you are arguing for a 3/9 release, but the way I look at it, it just pumped up the chance of another 39 concert significantly. After all if the game is backed by Sega, what better way to market it than another concert? In fact, I can already see the Nendroid Miku cameo...
We can only hope~
