I wasn't sure where to post this. I just needed to vent about this 'cause I'm feeling quite depressed at the moment.

So basically, my school is super expensive, and I'm just barely making it with student loans. And on top of that, my upcoming animation capstone winter quarter has a HUGE lab fee, and is requiring a list of 10+ insanely expensive books. (I've already talked to the professor, but there's not a whole lot I can do since apparently the government would rather my father sell his house and not eat to pay for school instead of giving me some financial aid) At this point I have to start looking at what I can sell to get the cash. Really, the only thing I have that I can resell for a decent price are my VOCALOIDs. It's really breaking my heart, but I have to make a choice. I won't need to sell all of them, but I can't even begin to start thinking about who to get rid of.

oh man... I'm in the dumps right now :'C

That's awful D:
I kinda can relate to you, the gov. didn't even want to give me anything but loans... ;A;... my dad's annual income is rather on the high side that's why... But don't give up hope just yet!!! I might suggest you offering to do art commisions (that's what I'm doing for some personal monies but you can do it to help out pay for text books and stuff) or even take song commissions since you are really good at making songs and such. Be creative and use what you've got to your advantage!

You could try scholar ships or ask for financial aid.

:( going to college and above is really expensive.

Instead of selling your vocaloids, you can begin to sell songs and stuff intead. :)

Damn Kaitie, that sucks :c

If you've gotta sell the Vocaloids then so be it I guess, you gotta do what you gotta do and all that.
Like others are saying though, you could do commisions and such or get a part-time job if you don't already have one.
It really does suck though, I'm sorry you've gotta do all that just to pay for school stuff.

Thanks for the support you guys. I've already thought about most of the suggestions you left, but I'm afraid that once next quarter starts, I'll be so busy that I won't have time to do any sort of commissions, let alone keep any kind of job.(That's when we literally start production)

I've had a little time to think about it, and I've made a little piece. I've been in contact with my school's Japanese club and they said they had some members that may be interested in buying my Japanese ones. (I don't use them much so those would be the natural choice to sell I guess.) I suppose someone who actually speaks Japanese often would make a better home for them anyway.

I'm still a little sad, but I'll be ok. I'm going to keep all of my Engloids, and maybe one of my JPloids. There's enough people in the community, that if I need one of the voices I sell again, I can always collab. :3

Thanks again for the support.

...Ugh, well I don't know how to help but I will say that I share a similar struggle as you are too. I just had to have a huge interest in graphic designing and multimedia, and I just had to be good at it too. There wasn't any cheap school I could attend to around where I live that had a place for my interest except the expensive as hell ones. I chose the nearest expensive school to start with.

Now I'm wondering where I'll head since my FAFSA will soon be exhausted away.
I don't know what to think of student loans. It's basically using the government to continue. As for the books, I don't buy books, if you can find e-books online that can help you it'd probably be better, just gotta know the name of those books and search their pdf/online database on google.

What I'm planning here is that I'm probably going to transfer, hell, I'm not even through half of my year yet and I'm already considering to do so. It's a tough path to take, and who knows what I'll get out of it besides debt.

God-honest truth, when I get my job, I want to wire you some money via Western Union, or Paypal (if you have an account). Srsly, I want to help. I'll try my best (gambarimasu~).

Thank you so much for sharing with me guys. It's seriously tough to be a student right now. But things will be ok. I've had some time to think, and I've calculated it out that if I sell three, I will have just enough to pay my fee and get the most important of the books. I really do appreciate the offers of help though, you guys are really kind. The way I see it is that when I'm graduated and have a job, there will probably be fantastic updates for the voices I sell, and I'll just buy them again.

Also, I found a transfer student who is very excited to buy them from me. He speaks fluent Japanese and wants to become a DJ. I can feel much better knowing that at least they'll go to a good home where they'll be used often.

Thanks for letting me vent, I feel much better now. Good luck to everyone with similar issues! We'll all make it through somehow.

can you lighten your course load and save money that way and take the lost classes in the next session? are there any courses you could take a test for on the elective side? normally there is a bunch of course they require you to take so they can make their money off of you but sometimes you can challenge out of some of them if they have flexible ways to earn credits. perhaps you have credits from prior colleges you attended that they initially declined to give credit for that you might ask them to look at again. perhaps some of the flexible portion of your major's curriculum could be swapped out for classes with less fees or texts or cost less for some reason?

You know what to do now? Hope you're comfortable with it.

I don't know if I'm in a comfortable situation anymore. One of my friends apparently went to the college I'm going to once and yet I talked to her about it just today. I could have dig into more research rather than going to an expensive college so prematurely (I mean, hell, I basically am housed by fear to make such decisions) Anyways, there's the community college and it actually had graphic designing degree. I don't know if I'm pissed or what, but the thought of it can be stressing.

Ugh, it's not too late to change I hope. If I continued, I'd probably be caged under student loans.

also; normally you can do community college as a way to save on a degree at a more expensive school later. not every credit will transfer but a lot will. (colleges always disallow some transfer credits on the excuse that the credits from the other schools equivalent course do not meet their standards. but the real reason is they want MOAR of your money.) with a little cross checking you can find out which credits they do that to in advance and make the more expensive school eat more credits than they would like. but over all that approach does save money if you absolutely have to go to a prestigious school. on the other hand a degree from a community college is just as powerful in the job market for a lot of careers as a prestigious school.

=C Oh man, I wish I could help you somehow, Constantine. I wish I could send some money to you, but I can't.

Like stormbringer suggested, maybe you should drop a few of your classes and receive some money back. I really hope you don't have to sell your Vocaloids. Maybe you could check if some friends could help you pay for school. I really hope you could get some form of donation, if that is at all possible.

Maybe next semester, you'll take only as many classes as you can pay for. It'll extend the number of years it takes you to graduate, but at least you can afford it and you'll graduate eventually. Not everyone graduates in four years of college, I might be in college for longer than four years because I kept changing my degree. Infact, I might be changing my degree again.
