Lilath, controlled by the Shadowsong family at face, is actually under influence from the senate. The senate is only in such a powerful position as it is due to the queen not wanting to start any more civil conflict then there is already between the two more powerful nobility within the senate itself. The house of Collingwood, a family of nobles hungry for power and seek the unification of Lilath under fist and a strong military power. The house of Myriad is only interested in money and increasing the wealth of Lilath through backroom bargaining and a sharp tongue. Both houses are constantly at each other's throats, one only being rivaled by the other in terms of power.
Once every six years an event called 'The Sacred Games' takes place in the capital city of the Collingwood, Stormwatch. The event is to decide the husband of the princess in an arena style fight that dates back in tradition for many, many years. In these games anyone may enter, anyone can win, nobles often buy gladiators to fight for them in these Sacred Games, some fight themselves, and some just go for the entertainment of watching.
The world of Tsarian is inhabited by magic of all kinds in the form of runes inscribed onto ones body. Runes are of the old world, most located in everyday rune shops, other, more rare runes, are found in ancient ruins and tablets of the old world. These runes can be used for an endless list of things from every day needs like heating a home or filling a pot with water, or things like fighting like steadying ones hand for pin-point accuracy or filling one with such strength to overpower giants. There are unique runes as well, ones that control the very essence of life like the rune Aserith had to bear, the Life-Binder rune which are far more powerful then a human to control... yet it's human nature to seek such power regardless of the cost that comes from it.
