A) I was still a minor at those times
B) I lived in California
C) Dad said it would be a waste

I live in PA now, but still not sure if I can go yet

You don't have to live in Maryland to go lol. It's in Baltimore, so anyone who lives around there can go.

It may just be the fact that you've gone so many times. This is my first time, so truthfully, I'm very excited.

Makes sense. Why would your dad say it would be a waste? If he knows you're an otaku, and you express it, I think he would realize the fact that it would have a lot of stuff you're interested in if he researched.
But if he's no longer a problem, then yeah, I can't really help you there. It would be awesome if you went :3

Oh, he's still a problem. He's paying for my college. He doesn't understand why "old people" go to cons. It's complicated. As I said, I will try my best to go. I wanna do my Ratchet and Clank skit there (if I get a costume in time).

Ratchet and Clank sound familiar to me but I can't put my finger on it!! *shot
And that sucks. I mean if anything, more teenagers and adults go to cons than younger people.

No, don't get me wrong. I love anime conventions. I'm super excited for Katsu next month and I've also been going to that for ages. However, Otakon has a $65~$75 price tag in comparison to the $45~$50 that gets you into the other smaller conventions in the area. Now, think about that price while I mention all of this. The panels are very half assed in my opinion because most of the congoers just mill about and take pictures of each other for three days straight. The masquerade features mostly dance numbers and "dramatic" skits-which are quite boring in my opinion and I would much rather see comedy. The rave is a crowded hotbed of drunk/high people who will take out the genitalia and put it on your ass without a second thought-which happened to me just this last year so I know for a fact that it happens. The crowds are generally unfriendly unless you know them already, and even then they can be quite frosty. So you're paying $65~75 to go to a convention with drunken perverts who don't shower for three days and only care about their costumes or pictures in a very small place-because the unofficial picture area in obviously the tiny room with the fountain-with 35,000 people crammed into it. I think I have every right to say that $65~75 is steep for a convention with little to offer other than solace that I'm not the dorkiest person ever. Now take into addition to that cost the cost of the hotel room during prime season. That's another approximately $400~600 dollars. And then the dealer's room. I love me some dealers room. Who doesn't? But that's another $100 or so. So in the end I'm paying approximately $565~775 out of pocket to go to a convention that has really just jacked up it's prices.

Ironically, I'm still going for that eighth year at Otakon.

And if it was just the number of times I've gone, I think it's make more sense for me to hate all animu conventions instead of shell out money to them almost three times a year, every year for the last 7 years.

I can't blame anyone for feeling its not worth the money. I mean, I enjoyed myself last year, but the staffers ruined it for me. 100% ruined it for me. I went for Nobuo, and they cheated me out of getting his autograph, because I lined up in a logical place instead of where the staffer's friend has started a line. (Note: the line that got to see him first was started in a completely different area from where the autograph room was, but the staff was made at us for starting a line instead of waiting for them to decide where the "official" line would be. God forbid we read the schedule and new where the damn thing was gonna be.)

Still, I'm considering going again just for the dealer's room and the cosplayers. And maybe the rave. At least I got to see the K-on! concert last year, and that was cool and all, but I have to set low expectations for panels. Not necessarily their quality, but actually getting to see them.

Well, whoever goes, like try harder for a VO meet up this year instead of the haphazard way we tried it last year lol.

Im in PA, but I'm taking the drive. I'm gonna be cosplaying SF-A2 Miki and possibly Envy from FMA, depending on the panels.
I love that con. It has a nice atmosphere. And it's big. The dealers room is beautiful.
