Well after about 9 hours of editing, redoing dynamics, and dealing with MIRIAM and Sonika not wanting to play nice together. I think I have something that might be okay. I still have to do the whole left and right panning at the beginning but I will do that a little later. For now I need to know what is wrong with the piece because there is always something wrong and I will go no where near Youtube until I get the bugs hammered out. So if you leave a critique be as harsh as possible. I guess the main things I need to know is if Sonika and MIRIAM are understandable and if they are in tune because I spent a good 4 hours trying to clean them up in Melodyne. (Especially Sonika)
Thanks in advance.

MIRIAM sounds a tad choppy and it seems like some of the lyrics feel forced to try to fit in with the music, throwing off the beat (I've listened to this song so many times so I really feel it when the beat goes off)
I'm curious as to what lyrics you used for this, as maybe they might be a literal translation and it throws of the flow of the song ;n;

^ rockleetist credits them to someone named UMI in her video, so they're actually not hers.

The vocals sound the slightest bit early, but only in certain parts, which is strange. If you did the vocals in parts rather than with just MIRIAM's whole vocal track and SONiKA's whole vocal track, that might be why. If you didn't do it in parts, then i'm probably just hallucinating.

They sound a little muffled to me, so you might wanna adjust the EQ to fix that, just don't raise the highest frequencies too much or they'll start to get metallic and raspy.

I have a bit of a hard time understanding them, but I'm beginning to notice that the only circumstances under which I can understand English VOCALOIDs most of the time is when i already know the lyrics, and I don't really know the lyrics to this song, so its not really your fault.

Also the rhythm in the harmonies on the line "happy synthesizer" is off. The main vocal's rhythm is 1 + 2 + 3 + a (4) e + but the harmonies are singing 1 + 2 a 3 + a (4) e +. And the harmony in the second chorus on the first line sounds... weird... Its like on the word "how" SONiKA randomly goes down a half step and it sounds funky.

okay I'll Try to make them a bit cleaner ( I'll remove that fruity free filter I put on Sonika as well ) Maybe up their clearness a bit more in the voice editor. As for the happy synthesizer part I think I see where it is going wrong though I will have to experiment. ( I think it is the fact that it uses dotted 16th notes that makes it sound odd )

I already did. I used the B setting. Though I have heard using the C setting also works as well.

OG and AyuRox already pointed out the major things.

However, despite still being a bit muffled, I could actually understand Sonika, which is a rarity, so good job on that. Is that on the V2 engine?
Thanks for helping me reach 1000 views!

Sonika sounds like she's a bit ahead on her first verse, and near the end at the last chorus. The pronunciation on the chorus was good, but it's pretty muddled for the verses. I think it might be because they're layered, so their personal flaws even out?

The choruses made me really happy, actually XD

EDIT: Looking at the other comments, I've just said something wildly different.

Hrrrrrmmm well if it helps my profile is that I rarely listen to Engloids, I am not musically trained and my ear can't really be described as accurate or terrible. Also, I have trouble understanding spoken english in native songs as well, so shruggg *shrug*
YT Listing and Soundcloud (so that you may assess where I am musically), my vocaloid drawing/redesign thread (So that you can assess where I am, visual-artistically), I'm likely to have not updated either since 12/30/2012 and now you know what to expect from me 8 |
