Hello there! Let me introduce myself and my problem. I'm planning to jump into the producer side of the Vocaloid craze, and am planning to get my first Vocaloid. I want the Vocaloid 3s, not only for Vocaloid 3's higher quality, but because there's about 8 English Vocaloid 3s on the edge of release (some of which I'm crazy about) which are: Miku, Kaito, V3 Luka (which will be useable by Westerners because of Vocaloid Engine 3's language settings), VY? (Feminine), VY? (Masculine), SeeU, and the two unnamed Zero-G Celtic Vocaloids. But that aside... I'm also planning to get a laptop specifically for the purpose of using it for Vocaloid. The one I have my eye on, the Acer Aspire AS5534 (Details about it can be found here: http://shop.amd.com/...ok/LX.PJU02.006 ). Would this be a good laptop for Vocaloid 3? The base requirements for Vocaloid 3's Engine CPU is Celeron Dual Core 2.1GHz at the very least. This is .2 GHz higher than the CPU that comes with this laptop, which is the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core for Notebooks, CPU Model L310. Would this create massive problems, such as the program not being able to work on my computer, or would this only create a small amount of lag?

I am getting this information from the Vocaloid wiki. However, I can't find specific requirements for each particular voicebank. Would the V3 voicebanks be satisfied with the same requirements that the Engine has, or would I need extra computing power?

Your help would be very much appreciated. :3

^ I don't think the difference in brand will make a difference, although different brands of processors can function slightly differently. i.e., an Intel 2 GHz may not be exactly the same as an Athlon 2GHz, but it'll still be really close. That extra .2 GHz should account for any potential difference between brands. But higher is always better. If you're just barely scraping by, it may still lag because of anything else you might have running at the same time, such as background tasks, internet, other programs, etc.. So that laptop should be OK, as long as you don't wanna be doing anything else at the same time.

And every VB has the same CPU requirememnts. the VB is just a set of recordings (and some programming of said recordings)). the engine is what actually processes them.

Just know that if you have lag with VOCALOID, it'll make it a pain to work with, because lag in VOCALOID manifests itself as intermittent screeching and cracking in the vocals. Imagine if you had a song on your iPod and madly started pressing Pause/Play, but instead of silence there's mechanical screeching. It can be worked around by synthesizing the track before you play it each time, but then you have to wait for it to synthesize every time you change something, and after the track gets past a certain length, it gets really tedious.

But like I said, as long as you don't plan to run much anything else at the same time, that laptop should be OK.

[edit]
crap, I misread what you said. I though you said the processor of the laptop was .2 GHz higher than the minimum requirements, not theother way around.

So in that case, ehhhh, you might wanna invest in something a little higher. It'll likely lag in which case you'll have to deal with the cracking and tedious track rendering I mentioned earlier. In all reality I'd say to not even bother with a laptop, but I'm also biased against laptops (having everything integrated makes upgrading them a pain)

Thanks! Hmmm, I definitely want a laptop because of portability. That's one of the things at the top of my list. I'll look for another computer with higher GHz. Thanks again!
