Hello, everyone! It's a hectic time of the year, isn't it? I know a lot of us have finals exams, some are graduating, or making plans for the summer.
So while I'm sure you guys have other things on your mind, I'd like to ask that you take a moment and read this announcement, though there's never a good time for bad news.
VO is running out of money. VO+ membership has help keep us afloat for while, and we appreciate everyone who has bought VO+. It's been a huge help and has been what has helped us keep going. The problem is is that VO hasn't received a donation in almost a year (we had a similar topic to this one by then) and VO+ isn't enough to pay the fees alone. In the end, the lack of donations has really hurt us financially.
Every month, we pay around 50-55$. Approximately $24 goes toward our server space and $26 for our cPanel license.
To make the point, VO needs 350$ to cover the rest of the year. We realize that's a lot of money. It's the cost of keeping VO a free forum for everyone though, with all its features.
We truly hate to ask for donations, but having to close VO because we can't afford to keep it running would be much worse. Any amount you have to offer is appreciated. You can make a donation to the site by the donation box in the sidebar on the forum index. Becoming a VO+ member is also encouraged. The benefits it brings are worth your while too.
If you have any questions/comments, feel free to post in this thread.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

Thanks Luka. I asked her to make this topic so obviously I can attest that we need some mint to keep chugging along. Last time we had a whole donation thing going on and it paid off, so let's make it work this time as well.
I've put a meter by the sidebar so you can see how close we are to the goal.

I only have a few cents to donate. :( But every bit counts right?

Why do you need a cPanel license, does your host not have one itself? You could save ALOT more money by not having one, or switching to a hosting service that provides one for you. If you are running a VPS, why are you paying extra for cPanel? Learn to do things yourself and save the users over 300$ a year. Daily backups? If you are worried about the posts, just make a cronjob to backup the database daily, or upload it to an amazon s3 which would be 100x cheaper than the daily backups. If you can't do this stuff yourself, or your webmaster can't, why not get someone that can?
Also, if your excuse for not moving servers is "the server is heavily customized" I will facepalm alot.

No, each user pays a cPanel license, which includes the WHM, which is widely used in VPSs. I've seen a lot of hosts out there, usually they add a cPanel fee. You can schedule a backup but if it's hosted in the server itself, there's not much point if something bad happens. Besides, does Amazon s3 provide an FTP access? If they don't, then there's not much point again, I'd have to upload it myself (can't schedule a remote FTP backup). I'm not downloading and uploading backups manually everyday.
