So hey guys. I'm having a major problem here and I've been doing everything in my power to get it to work, and after 3 hours of no luck, I think it's time to just ask for help.

My UTAUloid at the moment only has her voicebank in romaji, so I am (desperately and unsuccessfully) attempting to alias it with hiragana. I've read every tutorial and help thread I could find on google with no luck.

Here's what the problem is:

When I copy and paste the hiragana into the alias box, it comes up as a ? or ??. However, when I hit the set button, it does set the ?'s (pointlessly) as the alias.

When I type hiragana into the alias box, it will stay for a split second, and then disappear. It will then do 1 of 2 things:
A) reappear when I highlight the alias box and proceed to pop up in every other sound's alias box (and if I try to change them, every sound then has THAT hiragana),
or B) it will disappear entirely and lock up so that I can't type anything in the alias box at all, and have to x out and reopen.
The set button has absolutely no effect in either case.

Here's what I've tried:

Installing Japanese keyboard (functions fine everywhere but in UTAU)

Changing locale to Japan (works everywhere but in UTAU - even with the locale change, the original version without the English patch just has weird symbols everywhere, not Japanese)

Uninstalling and deleting all UTAU files, and then reinstalling (tried this 6 times, to no avail)

Multiple restarts in between all of this

Sidenotes:

After all this, I attempted to make a new voicebank, and named all the sound files with hiragana - planning to alias with romaji. Not only did they all show up as ?'s ONLY in UTAU, none of them would play inside of UTAU.

Dunno if it's relevant or not, but I have Windows 7.

Did I miss anything? Anything at all? I'm pretty much willing to try anything at this point, because I've done all I could think of and absolutely nothing will work.

EDIT:
In hindsight, I think I should have posted this in The Clinic. My bad, guys, sorry. I'd move it if I could.

Try pressing the enter key after typing hiragana, that should properly set it into the box you want it to go into.

Hey, thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, when I hit the enter key, it basically does the same thing as when I don't hit it (locks up/disappears/flips out in general) ._.

The only other thing I can think of is, have you tried reinstalling UTAU after changing locales or does that still not fix it?

Yeah, I uninstalled and reinstalled it multiple times after changing locales, and still nothing... :( Thank you for trying to help, though, I appreciate it.

do you have any screenshots?
YT Listing and Soundcloud (so that you may assess where I am musically), my vocaloid drawing/redesign thread (So that you can assess where I am, visual-artistically), I'm likely to have not updated either since 12/30/2012 and now you know what to expect from me 8 |

Open up the oto file and do it manually.

I don't at the moment, no, however I could take some. What all would you like screenshots of? Any particular parts of the interface?

That's actually a fantastic idea and I'm trying it at the moment but I'm running into the problem that if I save it with the normal encoding, it saves the hiragana as ?'s... And if I try to change the encoding on it, UTAU can't read the file. Any ideas? :/
