I know very little about these cats, but they have a vocal synth in development called Sing, and there is an example up on SoundCloud.

Looks like it's on the YouTube as well.

Oh, it sounds really good!

(uh, i hope it's not because it's using a small recorded dictionary or something...)

EDIT: maybe they just used a text to speech and pitchbended and timed the output... that'd explain the limited range--there's only so far you can pitchbend without it starting to sound unnatural. it'd also explain the staccato aspect--like cut up speech as opposed to samples of singing.

i wonder if this is like when some of those UTAU songs afaik are done off of samples specifically for THAT song where it would sound badly if the voice sung anything else, I don't know if thats actually done but it sounds like some UTAU songs might be done in a way sortof like that, I also don't know if thats even a thing you can do with UTAU as I don't know that much about it beyond the basics. Anyways thats kindof how this sounds to me.

Sounds nice though, I signed up

I have heard this type of effect on the human voice some where before, but I can't place it?

That's not a bad voice syntheziser, so I wonder how this will go

I like the sound of the demo. If I had even a reasonable amount of time to do beta testing I would sign up. Too many responsibilities these days! =8<>

If you have time then go for it. It's likely to be a lot of fun, and you'll have a close connection with the developer. :)

As a beta tester you will help them the best by finding issues with the software. It's a lot of work to come up with repeatable issues, and translate them into a recipe that can be followed to find the error. But if you get good at it then you might have found a career in software development. ;)

Komponant is building SING, the first Virtual Vocalist technology that actually sounds like a human.

Ooh, aren't we cheeky ;P

Sounds really good though, I'm definitely interested in this.

Exciting! Sounds very good so far, I'll be interested to see how they market it. I could see it being a steely competitor to Vocaloid if they go down the same route of humanoid mascots.
