I know people have recommended things here and there in various topics, but let's consolidate them into a dedicated thread! :D

Post your favorite Virtual Instruments, Synths, Samples, Sound Effects, and Plug-Ins for music production and/or mixing.

They need to be free or priced under $25 and LEGAL. (No torrents/cracks!!)

Let's keep it compatible with as many DAWs as possible: VST, AU, AAX, REX, (And also AIFF/WAV files.)

(Mods, can we pin this and make it an ongoing thing?)

Here's some FREE stuff I know.

http://sso.mattiaswestlund.net/ Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra
The only thing I don't like about these other than the lack of RR's is that the reverb is baked in :(
Luckily you can still definitely work with it.
I used the staccatos in Nebula

http://ivyaudio.com/ (Huge in size libraries but they're free and great) (kontakt and sfz)

http://www.karoryfer...roryfer-samples
Sample libraries made by another user here actually.
I like the drum packs, String Cyborgs, and Scarypiano. Definitely Scarypiano.

ISW's free products:
https://impactsoundw...e-stroh-violin/
https://impactsoundw...ynthetic-drums/
Personal favorite sample company. They made the virtual guitars I use (unfortunately not free hahaha)

http://www.dskmusic.com/
Various free stuff, I think the electronic stuff sounds better and everything else is negligible but that's just me. The choirs make good pads. I mainly use these in the writing process because they're not cpu heavy.
They also offer a cheap pack of better sampled instruments although I wouldn't really market it as "HQ instruments." They still sound very nice for their price though, and I think they'd fit wonderfully in a video game soundtrack.

http://www.sampleism...o-voice-kontakt (Female solo voice)
Very obscure library but very good for some basic haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. I used it here.
Playing one of the notes actually gave me the entirety of that song idea lol it was a lot of fun to make.
Also you can get that whistle from that track free as well so you can cover that damn spongebob song.
I don't know where exactly from that site its located though.

I have more but it'd take forever to gather all the resources.

Thanks for the shoutout. A few more resources:

Searching the KVR database for free (or filtered by price) stuff:
https://www.kvraudio...ins/free/newest

The KVR Developer Challenge just published 41 new freebies on December 1 2016, including an Alter/Ego female death metal voice bank that FlyingCarParts and I worked on:
https://www.kvraudio...challenge/2016/

Bedroom Producers Blog, which posts more detailed articles about "better" free stuff, and for which I also sometimes write:
http://bedroomproducersblog.com/

News sites:
http://rekkerd.org/ (fairly current, mostly based on developer press releases)
http://nice-disport.seesaa.net/ (not sure who runs it, but they do an amazing job of quickly picking up news on obscure freebies)

Beat Magazin developed Zampler and have free libraries for it, plus often offer other freebies, such as U-He Beatzille recently:
https://www.facebook.com/beat.magazin/

Developers of free stuff:

SM Drums, more than 2 GB of free drums, I made the Sforzando mappings and interface:
https://smmdrums.wordpress.com/

No Budget Orchestra and Band, a bunch of sfz instruments both based on free-to-reuse samples and some original physically modeled creations:
https://nobudgetorchestra.net/

bigcat, a guy who finds free-to-reuse samples and converts them to Kontakt and MaizeSampler VSTi formats:
http://bigcatinstruments.blogspot.com/

Nucleus Soundlab, home of the old Open Source Drumkit and some other stuff:
http://nucleus-sound...egory/freebies/

Full Bucket Music for some interesting synths including emulations of old string machines:
https://www.fullbuck.../music/vst.html

Commercial developers with nice freebies:

Orange Tree:
https://www.orangetr...-sample-library (old and small, but sounds great)

Wave Alchemy - check both "free samples" and "blog" which has stuff not listed under free samples, like the Tanzbar samples:
http://www.wavealchemy.co.uk/

Ample Sound - free acoustic guitar and P bass:
http://amplesound.net/en/index.asp

Ghosthack:
https://www.ghosthack.de/

Urs Heckmann (Tyrrel N6, Repro-1, Podolski and Zebralette and Triple Cheese are free I believe, while Beatzille is free via Beat Magazin):

Found some fun stuff:
All are Mac/Windows compatible.

TAL Noisemaker: (Really sweet warm synth... Super dope presets included!!!! Love it.)
https://tal-software.../tal-noisemaker

Crystal Soft Synth (Endlessly tweakable FM based synth. This one is so fun you can spend hours with it.)
http://www.greenoak....stal/dnld2.html

OB-Xd (Oberheim Emulator/ basic, a little thin, but useful nonetheless.)
http://www.discodsp.com/obxd/

Sonic Birth (This is a sound design environment, reminds me of early versions of MAX/MSP)

10+ GB of string samples.

They're doing it as a part of their 12 days of Christmas thing! I'll definitely be watching to see if they have more free stuff.

...and they're gone. Just 50% off now. I don't know if there will be free stuff for other days - I think last year they had one temporarily free library, Gediz.

I'm so lucky I secured a code! Literally right before taking off to work. Today is a good day.

Are there any other companies that do similar Christmas sales?

Waves do a Black Friday freebie every year, and I've seen occasional Christmas freebies from other developers but they're usually themed - sleigh bell samples etc.

Others will occasionally set older commercial products free, or make something free for a limited number of users or a few days. I've picked up Nine Volt Audio's taiko loops, Producers Choice Survival Drum Kit, and Eventide UltraChannel that way. Also, Drumdrop do this with new releases, where the first 25 or so are free, though of course those disappear in a matter of seconds, and sometimes they'll make an older kit free for a few days - I think I have two of those.

Native Instruments came thru with a freebie.

Kinetic Treats. Free till January 4th.
A Kontakt instrument based on recordings of vintage children's toys.
Also comes with a $25 E-Voucher for any NI product. But I think it also expires Jan 4th so if you weren't buying anything till then its probably useless.

I'm gonna break the rules - this is $39 regular, $29 intro price, but...

Contents include "silly drums" and "magical charms".

Found a link for free trap kits and samples:
https://cymatics.fm/...e-trap-samples/

Some are a little cringey, but some are useful. I wanted all the overused "Hey" chants and found them lol.
I got them from the IAMM Vocal Chants pack.

"Ayy.. Ayy.. Ayy.. Ayy......."

I am officially relevant now.
