I know he's not going to come out at this rate, with V5 approaching quickly, but what actually happened? I really like his voice and I'd have bought his V3 already if I knew he wouldn't have a V4.

At this point Yamaha is gonna do what it's gonna do. Maybe VY2V3 didn't sell well enough that they thought there wouldn't be enough of a profit to make a V4 version? Honestly if you want VY2 just buy him. Worst case scenario is that he gets a V5 and then you just import and XSY the banks. Slightly less worse, they don't make him/it and you still have it.

Males do less well then females and VY1 heads a lot of Yamaha products while VY2 isn't.

Seriously, all but the Pocket Miku mini-piano that was released featued VY1, and that was going to feature her but went for Miku instead to get as many sales as possible.

Edit:

Also, his voice is not easy to work with and there was problems in VOCALOID2 with its quality. In addition, he isn't a priority rush out every engine and while we still have V4 you can expect him, but bare in mind he is really late at this stage. They may not be updating hi because he had Falsetto in VY2v3 which meant when transferred to V4 he could access XSY and they may not see a rush to put out a XSY capable voice while one exists.

The last major appearance a the moment is he was released for Vocaloid for education editions I think last year, can't remember when it was released.

I like to imagine he's been pushed back for V5, but who knows? I do find it odd that he still hasn't been updated though.
