Kimono?

My sister and I wore yukatas for Halloween (the only day of the year in my area where you can dress like this and not look like an idiot. XD) I bought kimonos and yukatas for us while I was living/studying in Japan last year. I wore my kimono to closing ceremony because it seemed appropriate (and I wasn't the only American ryuugakusei to wear one either X3). My host mother was even happy that I wanted to dress up for closing ceremony and she even helped me get dressed properly. I think she enjoyed the fact that I was so interested in Japanese culture.
NOTE: (This one, I think, is mainly for the ladies, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) If you are properly wearing a kimono (including the proper under-garments), YOU CANNOT BREATHE. XP It's like wearing a corset. The garment is tied so tightly that you are forced to stand up straight. I also know now why ladies in kimonos take those small dainty steps, BECAUSE THEY CAN'T WALK ANY OTHER WAY. It was really fun to wear it, don't get me wrong, and I even got a call of approval from some random guy in a taxi cab while I was waiting for the bus home. X#D (Either that, or he just thought this tall black girl in a kimono looked amusing/out of place. X#D) But when I got back and changed clothes, let me tell you, it was nice to be able to BREATHE again. X3

I always just wear boxers under my Kimono.
If I am not mistaken ladies do not have to wear any special type of under garments.
They can just wear their bras and panties if they so choose and it's not considered wrong.
I do know that the obi are tied really tight on ladies which can make it hard for them to breath if done too tight.
But seeing how I am not a lady and have never worn a ladies yukata I am not exactly sure how they are supposed to do it.

I know that some girls will go all natural under their yukatas and not wear anything. Pretty bold and risky if you ask me, not that I am really complaining, because you can tell if you have been around girls who wear them a lot who is wearing anything underneath and who isn't.
In the same catagory I have also known girls to wear full clothing under as well.
I am talking pants, shirt, shorts etc...
I even had one childhood friend who wore her school outfit under hers.
