If you have any reports on Vocaloids that are newspapers, magazine articles, online sources, or TV reports, please post them here. The articles that should go here should be about any of the Vocaloids and can be from any country. If the article is really amazing or not general information about the Vocaloids, feel free to make a separate thread for it. Just use good judgment there. Please include the title of the publication, the title of the article, and the date of publication or video upload. If you are able to translate an article, please do so. We greatly appreciate any translations. It is perfectly acceptable and encouraged to discuss these articles in this thread. =)

Idols. Technology has created virtual singers. This fact is possible thanks to a software.

Miku Hatsune is an idol type artist in Japan. This means she is a pop star that is followed by millions of young people and lends her voice to musical themes for animated series. She dresses in flashy outfits and has a particularly high pitched voice. She sells millions in merchandise, fills enormous coliseums for her concerts, and millions would love to meet her, touch her, and even hug her.

The problem is that this is impossible. No matter how much her fans want to have contact with her, they'll never be able to, for Miku Hatsune does not exist in the real world. She is what is known as a Vocaloid, a virtual idol.

Víctor García is a guayaquilenan otaku (name given to fanatics of japanese animation). He has followed the Vocaloid phenomenon very closely and explains that it is a voice synthesizing software that is able to "sing". "It was developed by Yamaha and synthesizes songs by simply writing the lyrics and melody," he says.

Mariano Rodríguez, a systems engineer, claims the software "provides the user the capability of synthesizing songs with simply writing lyrics and melody." The Japanese company was looking for a form of being able to commercialize it to the public in general, and that is how in 2007, Miku was born.

"It is the synthesis of a digital voice, with a preadolescence body, in charge of Japanese artist KEI, and has an innocent personality," García adds. These characteristics have turned these Vocaloids into virtual idols for which some fans have fallen in love.

"The possibility of falling in love of an idoru, an electronic creation, could be, in a future not so far, something considered normal. In our times, real and virtual are starting to mesh together," sociologist Silvia Nieto explains in the publication Virtual Stars. Miku Hatsune has published over 10 albums in different styles, such as pop techno, romantic ballad, and even polka. Since the year 2008 there have been collection figurines, postcards, books, and clothes. There are also games, such as Hatsune Miku Project Diva, where the user is a kind of manager to this virtual star. In late March this year, her fans were able to attend the first concert of a virtual character in Tokyo, for which 2500 tickets were sold.

Although many claim that this is not completely true, since Gorillaz had already presented such a recital, the Miku character is the first one to have her own virtual voice, while Gorillaz uses the voices of real artists, including the vocalist of the British band Blur.

The idols are a very important part of the Japanese society and the idea of virtual idols has facilitated the capability of them transcending in time, since they don't get old nor do they get tired of giving concerts.

Hatsune Miku, created by the company Crypton Future Media, is the hype in her country.
The latest and greater pop star of Japan is very different from the majority of current singers, she is like a product of science fiction: she's a hologram!

Hatsune Miku is pretty, besides elegant, and has caused sensation in her home country, where her concerts always sell all the tickets and they're full of fans that idolize her, the Daily Mail informed.

Miku is a digital avatar created by Crypton Future Media, a Japanese software company, and customers can buy her and then program so she sings any song in their computers, which has also resulted in a success.

Her creators have revealed very few on her personality, they've only said she is 16 years old and that she measures approximately 1.55 meters in height.

According to the Daily Mail, Crypton Future Media uses voices recorded by voice actors and then processes them through Yamaha's VOCALOID software to create their characters.

In Miku's case, her voice was created by sampling Saki Fujita's voice. All of the samples contain japanese phonemes that create words and complete phrases when put together.

Miku's music and image have turned out to be so popular, that she is now on a tour that has completely sold out its tickets and where thousands of fans wave glow sticks and yell as if she were a real pop star.

For the first time
This is the first time that a hologram has been used in this wan on stage, moving and dancing the same way as a real pop star would.

Gorillaz, the band led by Damon Albarn, used proyected holograms in the MTV Awards ceremony in 2005 and 2006, but these were proyected on a screen in the background, instead of in three completely different dimensions.

Miku already has a fanclub, a Facebook page, and has stablished her own music industry. She has also appeared in a number of episodes of popular Japanese anime shows.

She offered her first "live" concert on 2009 and has also visited Singapur.

On March 2010, three metal plates with the image of Hatsune Miku engraved on them were set aboard the Japanese spaceship Akatsuki and sent to space after a national petition with over 14 thousand signatures asked for her to be included.

Still no mention of the people who composed the songs (a.k.a the Producer)? Even the ones that appeared in the concert (Like Agoaniki, 19's Sounds Factory, Minato, DECO*27 etc)? I'm sad my dear, I'm sad.

All of them just comment on Miku, felt like the songs were magically appeared... They need credits too. T_T

Old as hell article, but hey, It's probably one of the earliest mentions in western media, and I love reading the newspaper, and if it wasn't for me really getting into Vocaloid I'd forgotten about this article altogether. Note the date of article publication, so it's justified Miku does not have a mention.

When I first read it, I was like "Why would a newspaper care about this shit?"

I'm seriously starting to think Crypton is bribing people to get them to write about Miku or something. I notice that there were almost no articles written before September, yet now the number of them is exploding, even though they all say the same thing. Probably after English Miku comes out, the amount of articles is going to drop drastically and she'll go back to being a "Japanese thing." But for now, Crypton is trying really hard to get her into the West's culture, so whatever. ~~Not like it's gonna do much anyways.~~

KarenT is the label that many Vocaloid producers use to sell their CDs or mp3s. It is a place to gain recognition by posting music online, which is to be bought. It is a record company though. But several producers have several methods of making their own music (separately as in without collaborating unless it is stated)as far as I know.
