Topics I've Started

  1. Producer-Utaites

    Posted 9 Apr 2014

Producers who cover their own Vocaloid originals later.

I know DECO*27 is famous for duing this in his album releases. Adding his own auto-tune dubs as bonus tracks to his CD releases as a little something extra for his fans.

Anyone know of any other producers that do similar?
  2. Contribute Lyrics to Interactive Vocaloid Original

    Posted 9 Apr 2014

As part of Vocaloid: Discovery Interactive back in January Koda-P and I held a 2 part panel about Vocaloid. The first part "Discovery" examined Vocaloid as a software, how it works, and other competing vocal 'singthesizers'.

The second part of the panel titled "Interactive" called for crowd participation. In a madlibs-like game except with Vocaloid lyrics Koda invited the audience to choose the Vocaloid that would sing his next original "I Fell In Love". After the crowd decided Sweet Ann as the vocalist Koda invited the a crowd to choose what/who Sweet Ann would fall in love with. The crowd by near unanimous decision voted for "Walter White Body Pillow", needless to say much shenanigans was had during the panel, the full contents of which are embedded below.

Anyways with the panel audience providing the lyrics for the first half of the song, Koda-P invites you, the internet, to help him write the rest. Watch the panel footage above and when you are done fill out our survey (http://bit.ly/ALAvSurvey) to submit your own responses. Include your name with the submission and if your words are chosen you will be added to the credits as having help make a Vocaloid Original possible!

Lyric submissions close soon so get your responses in as soon as possible. Subscribe to Koda-P @ YouTube or check back later next week to see the results of everyone's efforts!
  3. Vocaloid Discovery Interactive Panel @ Anime Los Angeles 2014

    Vocaloid: Discovery Interactive
    Convention: Anime Los Angeles
    Date: Saturday, January 11, 2014
    Location: Room LP4 (MARQUIS III)
    Time: 11:45AM – 01:15PM
    Synopsis:
Vocaloid Discovery Interactive is a two-part panel on Vocaloid and other ‘singthesisers’.
In ‘Discovery’ we will explore the history of vocal synthesizers, overview some of the ones out today, before finally doing an in-depth analysis of the Vocaloid software in particular. We will demonstrate how the software works, introduce common workflows of a producer, before finally taking a look at Vocaloid’s applications, possibilities, and future.
In ‘Interactive’ producer Kodakami will ask you to apply some of the lessons learned earlier in the panel to help him create a song. Koda-P will demonstrate the entire (abridged) workflow of Vocaloid song creation and you can be with him from beginning to end as we create music together!

Engloids.Info is proud to announce our very first Vocaloid panel/workshop. We covered Anime Los Angeles extensively back in 2012 when VocalektVisions held Vocaloid concert there that featured the Engloid Sweet Ann. I also did a writeup (complete with video) on the year’s Vocaloid panel Vocaloid: The Fan Phenomenon. Sadly, last year’s Vocaloid panel was lackluster at best and, though we enjoyed the con very much, there wasn’t much relevant to the blog worth reporting.

After the poor Vocaloid showing last year, and having attending the “How to Host a Panel” Panel giving tips on how you too could host your own panel at a convention fellow Engloids.Info staffer and Vocaloid producer Koda-P and I decided that we should host one of our own but instead of examining Vocaloid as a ‘Fan Phenomenon’ take a look at it from a producer’s perspective, and provide some unique insight not only on Vocaloid’s history and culture, but also the software, how it works, and maybe even a sneak peek at a producers workflow.

Too make sure that the audience doesn’t get bored, and to make sure they were paying attention during the first part of the presentation we decided to make the panel “interactive” and invite the audience to take part and see their input being applied to the production of a Vocaloid original, live on stage. We got quite the panel lined up for you all and we hope to see you all there. If not hopefully we can get some video to share with all you that couldn’t make it.

Speaking of ‘making it’ if you are interested in attending Anime Los Angeles and seeing our panel the convention is January 10-12 2014 at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott. The convention is limited to 4,000 badges this year and as of December 25, 2013 (11:25pm) there are only only 575 spots left. If you are interested in attending check out the Registration Page for latest updates on badges and availability.

  4. Free Music Production & Songwriting Courses!

    Posted 15 Oct 2013

We were talking about this on UtaForum but I figured it was worth cross posting. Classes started 2 days ago but you can join for the rest of the week till the first assignments are due Tuesday.

Of the classes Music Production is the most technical and harder of the two. Doesn't require much of a music background but for those new, be sure to re-watch any lectures you don't get. Songwriting to me comes off as a 'softer' tool driven course and seems like a creative writing English class with a musical spin.

If you feel a bit daunted don't worry, its an online course so you can study at your own pace. Also reply with your Skype username and I can add you to a study group I am making for both courses.

Even if you don't have time to do all the assignments/quizzes I still recommend signing up if only to gain access to the video lectures which alone are still useful (though do the work if you can!)
  5. Interview with neutrinoP

Following our coverage on Fan Group Seeks to Crowdfund Convention Concert we reached out to neutrinoP for an interview both for a bit of insight on English Gumi, the SRP Kickstarter, and more on Vocaloid music production.

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us here at Engloids.Info. For the those that don’t already know you from our EN Gumi coverage (link) would you mind introducing yourself?

Of course! I’m a former professional stage pianist. I am Romanian. Due to my paralysis, I had to quit that life more than 17 years ago. VOCALOID is my new life, a new way of expressing my feelings, a new way of sharing my own experiences with the whole world. And like a well known VOCALOID artist said too (which is pure coincidence that we are thinking the same!): “VOCALOID saved my life!” , and not just once!

Wow, that is a really empowering story. First, I have to ask, since it seems to be tradition here at Engloids.Info. Is there a story behind your name?

Yes, it is. As stage pianist, you are not always on stage, mostly below the stage. Only the singers are up there (except few representation where the entire orchestra is on stage too). So the audience hears the orchestra, but is not visible, and that means the piano too. And knowing about the newly discovered particle at that time, and comparing this to the particle itself, it sounds similar: you can’t see it, but you know is there! So… here is why my artist name! But the producer title came later, after I debuted with many covers I made for practice and also with my first original VOCALOID song. That’s how the “P” got attached to my artist name.

Ah I wish we could have that on Vocaloid-fanclub too. But at least you guys had it, which is cool. We did get a few people though because we had that interview with a producer (that's only because I know they retweeted it).
